One New Jersey Ticket Wins the $847 Million Powerball — the Ninth-Biggest Ever

The biggest Powerball run of the year is over: the newest Powerball winner holds a single ticket sold at a Wegmans Food Market in Montvale, New Jersey. It matched all six numbers in Wednesday 4 November’s draw — 15, 34, 41, 53, 56 with Powerball 21 — to win $847 million, the ninth-largest Powerball jackpot in the game’s history. The cash value of the prize is $363.1 million.

The win ended a run of 35 draws without a jackpot winner that stretched back to mid-August. The jackpot had climbed steadily through the autumn as millions of players joined each rollover. As of the weekend, the Powerball winner had not yet come forward publicly — in New Jersey, winners can claim through a trust and stay out of the spotlight.

With the jackpot won, Powerball reset to its $20 million starting point. Saturday’s draw (3, 36, 37, 56, 61, Powerball 21, Power Play 2X) produced no winner, so Monday 9 November’s jackpot is an estimated $30 million.

Powerball is drawn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 22:59 Eastern Time and costs $2 a play. See the draw schedule for this week’s Powerball draws.

What to do if you are a Powerball winner

  • Wednesday and Saturday players should still check their tickets — both draws paid out millions of smaller prizes.
  • If you are the Powerball winner, sign the back of your ticket and take advice before claiming a large prize.
